Other than evolution, what other conceivable options do atheists have to explain the existence of humans?

You are making a false comparison, and setting up a strawman. They have nothing to do with each other. They can coexist. I don't consider myself an atheist, but evolution is well substantiated, and I accept it. As time goes on, theories are modified as we interpret results and observations.
